A TRAITOR IN OUR MIDST,PART 3.

An unwilling pawn:-

She was pulled forcefully towards a chamber door. Once opened she could see what lay beyond. Light filtered dimly down, reflecting off of a liquid surface and showing a flat stone breaking the surface in the centre. “ Don’t touch the water, it means instant death, or, should I say, an end to your afterlife?” Her mother grinned evilly before inserting a key into the wall. A stone platform rose from below the water, just long enough for Kylie to be forced across before it disappeared again. The door was shut with a heavy thud, leaving behind a ringing echo that sounded like the tolling of a death bell.

The black vest top and skin tight jeans she wore did little to keep out the cold that seeped through to her bones. The hopelessness of the situation was obvious, no-one would rescue her, all the other ghostbusters thought of her as a traitor, a ghost. Kylie sank to her knees, and, for the first time in years curled up and cried like the six year old child she had once been.

Slowly Ky became aware of a figure dressed in white standing next to her. “ Oh, do not weep, I am here too am I not? And I am saddened that their plan has succeeded.” She looked up to see Syren’s compassionate face. “ I tried to stop them, but they are intent on revenge. Surt knows that you are the one who can open this prison from the inside, even if you don’t. Please, for the sake of the ghostbusters, and the rest of the world, do not obey him.” “ What does he plan to do?” “ Destroy all and everything human. He caught you for you are a valuable, if unwilling, pawn in his plot.” “ Why do you disagree?” “ All I want is to go home, to Ireland, where I belong.”

A hiss from the doorway made the two women turn to see Banshee. “ Come, the master calls.” They crossed the bridge, that had once again risen from the toxic waters, and were marched towards the lord of this domain. The bubble that had previously hovered beside Kylie was now imprisoned in a wooden staff. The blue butterfly’s wings beat regularly, in precise time with a heart beat. “ Do you see that?” Whispered Syren, “ That is your life. They have caught it and imprisoned it. The only way to get you here was to take away your mortality. Break the bubble and release the winged creature. You will live once more. The vague thought of her not being able to survive as a mortal in this realm flitted through her mind before it was banished by Surt’s voice. “ Bring her here.” Two faceless spirits dragged her forward. “ The hand prints in this stone are yours. Open the doorway, release us from our prison.” “ Never, not in this afterlife, or the next.” The hypnotic tone of his voice made her hands move on compulsion. Once she saw what she was doing she snatched them back, letting out a threatening hiss. “ Very well.” Huge talons grabbed her thin wrists and forced her palms into the impressions. Bright light burst into a thousand colours of an unidentified spectrum. The portal to the human realm opened. “ At last.” Surt sighed. “ The world is mine to control, and the ghostbusters will die.”

In the firehouse an alarm that was rarely heard went off, startling everyone from what they were doing. “ Containment breach, everyone get ready, this is very, very bad.” Egon yelled this over the piercing shrill of the bell. Roland, Garrett and most of all Eduardo felt their hearts leap against their brains command at the thought of seeing Kylie. A traitor she might be, but it didn’t help the feeling of loss they had all suffered when she vanished. All the ghostbusters stood prepared to fight what could be not only what saved or destroyed the world, but what settled a traitors fate once, and for all eternity.
